Following the devastating crash of Air France Flight 447, yet another plane has crashed. While trying to land off of the Comoros Islands, a small nation north of Madagascar, the plane ran into heavy winds and as a result crashed. Out of all the people on board, there has only been one found survivor, a 12 year-old child. One thing that I want to know is why we have had so many crashes recently. Since 2004 there have been 49 plane crashes out of the tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of flights so the number is not horrifyingly high, but it does raise some questions. Does it just seem that way because we have a lot more traffic, or are there other reasons. Some people have speculated that as 2012 approaches, people will die more quickly and frequently but there is no proof for this. So are airplane crashes only seeming more common because there are more flights or is the world coming to an end?

Swine Flu

Today, the WHO declared that the Swine Flu is now a pandemic. This came after the virus had spread to 74 countries with 28,774 cases, 144 of them causing deaths. The WHO also declared that the Flu was unstoppable but if this is the case, then how come there are only about 28,000 cases. Although it may not be possible to eliminate the virus, we have proven that it is possible to slow it down. One big question is how did the virus originate? The answer is that it originated on a hog farm in Mexico where over one million hogs live and are slaughtered. The problem that caused the outbreak was not that there were too many hogs, but that when they were slaughtered and their remains were disposed of, the workers did not take enough care with the remains and the piles of dead bodies became breeding pools for the Swine Flu. This shows that the Swine Flu may have been able to be prevented altogether if the Mexican Government had more strict rules on the disposal of the remains of slaughtered pigs. Another thing about the Swine Flu is that it has a fairly low mortality rate and if people who are showing symptoms reach a hospital in time, then they will be fine. As new information comes in I will keep you up to date.

Now that it has been confirmed that Air France Flight 447 crashed, the only things left to do are find the blackbox, recover the bodies and wreckage, and find out who is to blame. There is already a French Submarine that is searching for the blackbox and is covering 35 square miles a day and there are a lot of ships and planes searching for the rest of the bodies and wreckage so now we need to find out who is to blame. Many different sources have reported that most likely, the plane flew into a thunderstorm and broke apart. But was it the pilot’s fault that he flew into a storm or was it the ATC’s fault for telling the pilot that everything was going to be fine. Another possibility was that the Aircraft experienced technical difficulties but the Airbus A330s have had almost no crashes and the engines that the plane was using are in use on over 15,000 planes worldwide. The plane and engines have had very few reported problems when taken care of so there is a possibility that Air France did not properly maintain the plane. As more information comes to light I hope that we can get to the bottom of this question.

Chrysler Deal Delayed

The Supreme Court recently issued a notice stating that they were putting the Chrysler deal on hold. The deal would make Chrysler part of a new company of which Fiat, the Italian automaker, would own a significant stake in that company. The Big Three of Detroit are seeming to recover as Ford is doing very well and has outperformed expectations by 200 percent, GM which is now practically a state run business, and Chrysler, which has a deal lined up so that Fiat will buy it. The cause for this deal was rumored to be that dealerships wanted more than 30 cents for every dollar of merchandise they owned. I believe that it is very important to get this deal through as quickly as possible in order to make sure that Fiat does not change its mind and so that the Big Three of Detroit can be saved.

More Air France Flight 447

Today the tail section on the plane was found and 16 bodies were recovered and yesterday 15 bodies were found so that brings it to a total over five days of bodies found to well over 30 bodies. Since the tail of the aircraft was recovered but the rest of the plane has yet to be found, it is most likely that the plane broke apart midair because had it not, all of the bodies and parts of the plane would be in the same general area and almost everything would be found.

Economic Crisis

Over the past few weeks there has been a lot of debate about who is to blame for the current economic crisis. I personally believe that the US banks are responsible for it. The economic crisis began with Bear Sterns failing and the systemic risk of it failing caused a shockwave in the economic world. The problems that caused Bear Sterns to fail were the massive number of sub-prime mortgages given out and buying on credit. Had it not been for the US, the rest of the world’s economy would still be doing well. If you have an opinion, leave it here and we can see if people agree with it.

War in Iraq

A lot of people have differing opinions about the war in Iraq that began in 2003 and whether or not it was a good idea. Personally, I believe that the war was a mistake. There is no arguing that removing someone like Saddam Hussein from power is a good thing, but the repercussions that followed were terrible. We are now almost 11 trillion dollars in debt and ae hated by most of the countries across the globe. Overall, I don’t think that removing Saddam from power can justify destroying an entire country, creating a massive national debt, and becoming enemies with almost every Muslim nation in the world. Business as usual with Africa

I was trying to research the economic and business situation in Africa today and was very disappointed. I couldn’t find anything! Almost one fifth of the worlds population lives there and I cant find a single shred of information about. The economist published an article stating that its population would more than double by 2050 and still nobody cares. I have asked so many people about what is going on in Africa and nobody knows. If you talk about the problems in the Democratic Republic of Congo, people will ask you where that is. For one of the best educational systems in the world, shouldn’t Americans know more about what is going on in the world. I have to admit that most other countries are the same but then again they aren’t the most powerful country in the world. All in all, I think people need to take the time to learn what is going on in the world around them because in this day and age, people can’t afford to be ignorant.

Does the SCO really help?

I have been researching the removal of the US air base in Kyrgyzstan and I found out some really interesting stuff. I thought that they wanted the US to get out because of something it did but that’s just not it. The SCO, or the Shanghai Cooperation Organization that is led by Russia and China wanted it out and they got what they wanted. Russia offered 2.15 billion in aid to Kyrgyzstan to “help them” and a few days later, the government of Kyrgyzstan released the order to remove the base. I just want to know why a government, no matter how poor, can be manipulated so poorly just through money. Whether the base being there was good or bad is a conversation for another day but there is no denying that money does control everything from life in a small town to intra-country relations.

Even More on Air France Flight 447

Even though nobody can be sure what happened to the flight, one thing that I believe should be ruled out is that the airplane was faulty. The plane was flying through a storm so any number of things could have knocked out its electronics to crash and that could have happened to any type of plane. The Airbus A330 has, aside from this incident, a perfect record with almost no crashes. Also, the engines it was using are currently being used in 15,000 other aircraft around the world and there has not been one single incident of an engine failing. So to sum it up, I believe that there was no problem with the airplane itself, just with the conditions it was flying in. The question I have is if there was a storm that was that bad, then why didn’t the plane either not leave Brazil or turn away to avoid it?
